Dear Friends of Colegio Alfa & Omega:

Another school year has ended at the Colegio and over 300 families entrusted their children to us this year. We graduated 27 fourth year secondary students and 12 of these students have spent their entire educational life at Colegio Alfa & Omega. Our curriculum is designed to protect them from outside influences but at the same time allow them to grow into adults who will impact the world. We continue to praise the Lord for His provision and guidance as we carry out our mission of providing the highest quality academic curriculum in the only private Protestant K-10 school in Spain..

This has been a good year. We have experienced moments full of joy and happiness and moments of tears. Some of our students have decided on vocational careers and others are going on to baccalaureate programs in preparation for university studies. And some of our students have come to know the Lord. But, through it all, God has walked with us. Throughout our history, He has led us, disciplined us and grown us--all for His Glory.

There were many highlights this year, but one was truly historic in the life of Alfa & Omega. This spring our soccer team led by Coach Blai Pasqual, an Alfa alum and accomplished player, won the Dénia city tournament for the first time. Our team went on to win the Alicante provincial title and then finally the regional Valencian championship! This was a very proud moment in the life of Alfa & Omega.

We also celebrated our 40th anniversary with more than 220 alumni and professors gathering in an atmosphere of laughter, excitement and reminiscing. A special time of the celebration was when we recognized with love and gratitude the work that Jorge and Encarnita have done over all of these years.

Our study abroad program continues to grow. Six of our 3rd Year secondary students participated this year and stayed with American families in Memphis, Texas and Arkansas. In recent years, we have sent our students to California and Michigan as well. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to learn a new culture and language and make new friends. It’s also a special time for the host families as the relationships made will last a lifetime. We hope that you might consider hosting one of our students sometime in the near future.

Our mission here at Alfa & Omega spans from our students and their families to places beyond the borders of Spain with international partnerships with Christian organizations around the world. During this past year many groups from churches, schools and universities who support our ministries made impactful service visits to our campus. Some of the highlights were:

1/5-1/12 Dallas Baptist University, Dallas, TX - This group of students spent the week helping out with our English program with games, songs and dances.

1/16-1/18 Calvin University, Grand Rapids, Mi. - This group of college students visited the Colegio during their winter break learning about Spanish culture and about the rich history of our school, church and Christian retreat center.

3/9-3/16: Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Waco, TX - 20 college students, 2 leaders and their youth pastor spent the week in the school engaging in activities with the kids and also working in our homeless outreach, Extend a Hand. The group from Waco visited and provided encouragement for the missions where our church is working around the area of Dénia.

4/4-4/8 Exchange with Guido de Bres School, Rotterdam, Netherlands - Our Dutch friends brought a culinary flavor when they prepared food from recipes from the famous Valerdam Restaurant.

6/29-7/6 Dallas Baptist University, Dallas, TX. - DBU returned with its Recreation Team this time who along with Spanish volunteers sponsored our annual Music and Discovery Camp. Around 200 kids from the community danced, sang, played sports, discovered our environment and had a lot of fun.

6/22-6/28 FBC Cabot, AR - Our dear friends from Arkansas helped staff our Day Camp where children perform different activities such as music, crafts and sports while practicing English and having fun at the same time.

7/15-7/19 Baylor University, Waco, TX - The Baylor Spanish students that come here for a month every summer, work as counselors with the children during the summer camps. After 18 consecutive summers, this will be Dr. Linda McManness’s last year leading the Bears’ annual trip to Dénia. Linda has been a great friend to our project and will be greatly missed. She will be passing the baton to another Baylor Spanish professor who will continue the annual tradition.

The end of school is a bittersweet moment in the lives of students, teachers, and all who are connected with our school. For some, they are leaving Alfa & Omega and heading out to a world full of wonder and awe.

It is my prayer that we will continually huddle under the umbrella of God as we teach, learn, graduate, and move on to our next destination. Lord, let our footsteps be strong and confident; let our speech be seasoned with compassion; let our focus be upon the goal of an eternal Kingdom that compels us to live with great passion for our Lord.
